Dan + Shay Put Their Stamp On Billy Currington Hit "It Don't Hurt Like It Used To" In Short YouTube Clip

Since becoming a fan of country music in middle school, I found myself getting attached to many artists based on their voices, songwriting skills, personalities, and beyond. One of those artists was Billy Currington. The first time I heard one of his songs, I was hooked on all of these qualities. His voice was smooth and sultry,  he sang a range of songs about every day life, including "People Are Crazy", romantic relationships, including "Must Be Doin' Something Right", and transitioning after ending a romantic relationship, including in the upbeat "It Don't Hurt Like It Used To". His personality was very laid back, which reminded me of Kenny Chesney, the very first country artist I was introduced to.

When Dan + Shay posted a cover of Currington's song "It Don't Hurt Like It Used to" on their YouTube channel back on August 15, 2016, I was eager to hear the duo put their stamp on the song, which was new at the time. Singing the third verse and the chorus acoustically in the short clip, Seated on their tour bus, Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney told the story about getting over a past relationship and trying to transition with their facial expressions and blended, honest vocals. I would love to hear their full version of this song one day, as this cover (like always) left me wanting more!

This is the only Currington song they have posted a cover so far. When the guys get back on the road in 2026, I hope they post some new acoustic covers while they are traveling from show to show, including more of Currington's hits! One that I would especially love to hear is the romantic, passionate "Must Be Doin' Something Right"! 😍𝅘𝅥𝅮
