If you have been following along with my blog that I started back in May, you have probably read many of my posts about Dan + Shay's acoustic performances, whether they were full length or short clips. These are some of my favorite things that the duo have done because it is just their voices backed with the guitar or piano, nothing is produced. And most of the time, you can hear Dan Smyers' harmonies, which I really enjoy. I hope that his harmonies are clearer and that he takes the lead on at least one verse (or more!) on their sixth studio album! While he always gives Shay Mooney the spotlight, I think he should shine it on himself once in a while too because his voice is also unique!
In this clip that Smyers and Mooney posted on their YouTube on December 7, 2023, the guys performed a relaxed, acoustic version of the chorus of their very first original holiday song "Take Me Home For Christmas". Taking place in Smyers' home, you can see his stocking, his wife Abby's, and one for each of their dogs behind them above the fireplace. This was the perfect backdrop for their performance. The lead vocalist showed off his crazy range toward the end and you can hear Smyers' harmonies. I loved this stripped down version because it felt relaxed and a little bit different than the original. I also enjoyed watching the guys smiling while they sang during the clip. When they both came together at the very end singing "Won't you take me home for Christmas", it left me wanting to hear more.
Below is the short clip of the duo singing the chorus of "Take Me Home For Christmas" courtesy of the Shorts page on their YouTube channel for you to enjoy!
