Nashville, Tennessee-based Mr. Bobby Bones has been a huge supporter since day one of Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney as human beings and their music. Be on the lookout for future posts when I write about other appearances the duo have done on his show as well as some of the interesting interviews they have done with the radio host on his Bobbycast podcast, both together as a duo and individually.
To amp up the fans for the release of their self-titled third album that was released on June 22, 2018, the guys appeared on Bones' radio show earlier in the week on June 19 and June 20. During the June 20 appearance, Smyers and Mooney performed their wedding song "Speechless" that had already been released from the upcoming album. With one of their co-writers Jordan Reynolds playing the keyboard, Smyers singing his exquisite harmonies and playing his guitar, and Mooney showcasing his signature vocals, the duo gave the host, his staff, and listening audience a beautiful, raw performance of the love song that would become their next number one song later that year in December. I was impressed by their crazy vocals on the song that they performed on the show early in the morning!
When I listen to this performance, Dan + Shay sound as good singing acoustically as they do on their albums or at a live show, if not even better, which says a lot about their raw, real talent. While music includes producing to get the best vocals from the singer and making them sound even better by mixing the different parts of the track and then putting it all together, I feel like for the lead vocalist of the duo, he could sing a song in one take without doing any mixing and he would sound perfect. I feel the same way about Smyers singing harmony. His harmonies are always seamless and perfect.
