My First Time Hearing Dan + Shay's Debut Single "19 You + Me" On The Radio

If you have been following my blog since the first post, I talked about my first time hearing Dan + Shay on the radio. I still do not remember the exact date, but I know it was in late 2013. I heard their debut single “19 You + Me” a few times on my local country radio station B93.7 FM, but then I did not hear it again. And when they did play it, the DJ’s did not mention the song’s title or the artist. Even though the song absolutely took my breath away, I never thought to go look up those things.

Thankfully I eventually found those important pieces of information when I stumbled upon the duo’s entire debut album Where It All Began that  was streaming for free on Spotify in March of 2014, the week before it was officially released.

When my ears got to take in “19 You + Me” in late 2013 on my local country radio station for the first time without knowing the title or artist, the overall thing that made it take my breath away was that it sounded absolutely refreshing from every other song I had been hearing on the radio at the time. It had a traditional country sound to it (with a mandolin and banjo used on the studio version), the lyrics were fresh and painted a vibrant picture about a past summer love in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. And Shay Mooney’s crisp, strong vocals backed by Dan Smyers’ beautiful harmonies were nothing like I had ever heard before. Everything I mentioned above about the song truly stood out to me. Stay tuned for a future post when I break down the song, from the vocals, lyrics, and more.

I have been fortunate to hear this song live six times so far, including March 14, 2024, my first time seeing Dan + Shay on their arena tour at Van Andel Arena! Hearing this song live for the first time in over seven years, I was able to hear how far my favorite duo have come in the last 11 years since I became a fan!

Here is he video I took of Dan + Shay performing “19 You + Me” live at Van Andel Arena on March 14, 2024, courtesy of my new YouTube channel! Enjoy!

P.S. Please feel free to hit the subscribe button on my new Daily Dash Of Dan + Shay YouTube channel at https://youtube.com/@dailydashofdanandshay?si=4opWZ52b4IkupRvQ ! So far I have two videos uploaded and as the week goes on, there will be plenty more for you to watch and enjoy! I will include them in my future blog posts as well!

Sunday Song Of The Day: Dan + Shay With Justin Bieber’s Piano Version Of “10,000 Hours”

Dan + Shay gave fans a treat when they released a piano version of their massive hit “10,000 Hours”featuring pop megastar Justin Bieber on November 17, 2019.  While the original studio version has a nice pop beat to it along with great vocals, the piano-only one is really stripped down. The keys provide a pretty background to showcase Shay Mooney’s and Justin Bieber’s lead vocals in addition to Dan Smyers’ harmonies.

When it comes to the duo’s romantic songs like “10,000 Hours” as well as previous hits like “You” and “Speechless”, their fans requested acoustic versions after the original studio songs were released. If you know Dan + Shay well like I do, they listen to their fans and give them what they ask for. You can purchase a copy of all three songs where you get your music digitally. These are just three acoustic, stripped-down songs that many couples have used to walk down the aisle or as their first dance song.

Enjoy this beautiful, relaxing piano version of “10,000 Hours” at the top of this post courtesy of Dan + Shay’s YouTube channel! πŸ₯°πŸŽΆπŸŽΉ

Saturday Spotlight With Justine Arnold: My Question And Answer Session With Loyal, Devoted Texas Fan

Here is my fifth Saturday Spotlight that I did via e-mail with my caring (online) friend and devoted, longtime Dan + Shay fan, Justine Arnold from Dallas Fort-Worth, Texas. Over the years I have followed many of the duo's biggest fans on social media and Justine is one of them! She and I have connected through direct message, reminiscing on the concert we had just attended. And when I went through some tough times, she was there sending me uplifting messages, which made me smile! She has also interacted with my social media posts and stories over the last decade and I have always interacted with hers, especially when it comes to our favorite country music duo!

In this fifth session, you will learn about the first time that she saw Dan + Shay in concert and had her initial meet + greet with them, what she thinks about their unconventional music videos, why the duo's self-titled third album is her absolute favorite, a special Instagram direct message reply from Shay Mooney of the duo, and more!

She also included a couple of pictures and a collage of some of her meet + greets she has done with the duo over the years! These can be found below the Q&A session!

Please enjoy reading my fourth Dan + Shay Fan Spotlight with Justine Arnold!

Stacy (S): When did you become a fan of Dan + Shay? Was it in the beginning or later on in their careers? What was the first song of theirs that you heard on the radio? What was your first impression of hearing them on the radio and then getting to know them through social media?

Justine Arnold (JA): Honestly? I can't tell you when I first became a fan. I remember back in June of 2014, my sister had an extra ticket to the Blake Shelton concert and I only went because I wanted to see Dan + Shay. I met them for the first time at this show, too!

(S): How many times have you seen the duo in concert? What is your favorite venue that you have seen thm play at? Tell me about a few of the concerts that stand out to you.

(JA): I can't tell you how many times I've seen them because I lost count LOL. I've seen them over a dozen times at *least* hahaha

(S): How many times have you had the opportunity to meet Dan + Shay? What was the first meet + greet like? Did anything they say stick out to you that you still remember today? Tell me about a few of your other meet + greets with the guys that were special.

(JA): I wanna say I've met them about eight or nine times? I could only find a few photos at the moment.

(S): Dan + Shay have a few unconventional music videos that don't portray the actual storyline of the song like "Tequila", "How Not To", and "Steal My Love". They used a completely different storyline. Please describe what you think about each of these videos and if you like the guys going outside the normal when it comes to music video concepts.

(JA): I honestly love those videos, and love any collab they do with P. Tracy! He's a creative genius!

(S): What is the name of your local country radio station(s) that you listen to? Do they play Dan + Shay's songs often? Which songs do they play the most?

(JA): 96.3 KSCS and 99.5 The Wolf. I honestly don't listen to the radio very much. 🫣

(S): If you had to pick your top two favorite Dan + Shay albums and top five overall songs (including from their Christmas album), what would they be? Tell me why those songs and the two albums overall connect with you.

(JA): My favorite album overall is their self-titled album. The album came out in June of 2018 and I lost my mom in July. It was THE album that I consistently played and it kept my spirits up during a time when all I wanted to do was cry.

(S): Dan + Shay have been very active on social media over the years. Are there any special interactions/memories that you have had with them on social media that you would like to share?

(JA): In 2018 when I lost my mom, Dan comped my tickets to their show in Dallas when they opened for Rascal Flatts. I got to see him after the show and thank him for everything and he apologized about my mom.

I got married in 2022 and I sent a message to Shay the night before and let him know we were dancing to "My Side Of The Fence" and he responded! It made my night! (Picture of the conversation below the Q&A)

(S): If you had the opportunity to have dinner with Dan + Shay and spend quality time with them afterward, what questions would you ask them? What would you talk about?

(JA): Oh wow, that's a tough question! I think I would ask how they handled the disappointment in the industry. How they handle writers block (lol). I'd probably ask Shay a lot of parenting questions and I am expecting!

(S): Is there anything else you would like to add?

(JA): Nope!! These are great questions! Thanks for choosing me to answer them. ☺️

Dan + Shay Give Cheerful, Warm, Inviting Acoustic Performance Of "Take Me Home For Christmas"

In my opinion, when it comes to powerful lead vocals, beautiful harmonies and background vocals, fresh production, and inventive song lyrics, Dan + Shay have you covered with each of these qualities on all of their songs. They truly take the time to make sure that every song is at its best before they are released.

One example of this is on the duo's song "Take Me Home For Christmas". On December 24, 2020, Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney posted an acoustic version of their first ever original Christmas song to their social media channels.

In a small room decorated with lights and a Christmas tree, Smyers, Mooney, their guitarist Justin Richards and their second guitarist and keyboard player Izzac Burkhart are seen sitting around a table. Microphones are set up in front of everyone. With Richards and Smyers on acoustic guitars, Burkhard playing the keyboard, and Mooney on lead vocals, this acoustic performance was a real treat for me. Even when they play an acoustic song, Mooney can still show off his insane vocal range and he sure did on this one! You can hear Smyers' harmonies on the "Take me home's" during the chorus and throughout this performance. I had not really heard Richards and Burkhardt sing background vocals and harmonies until I listened to this video. The duo's vocals are normally front and center, so it was nice to hear their band members singing and playing their respective instruments in this video. Their voices blended in really well with Dan + Shay's vocals. Everyone also looked like they were genuinely having fun while filming the video for this upbeat, spirited holiday song!

Below is the "Take Me Home For Christmas (Acoustic) video courtesy of Dan + Shay's YouTube channel! Enjoy!

Dan + Shay Will Grace The Grand Ole Opry Stage On October 21 As Part Of Amazon Music's Country Heat Takeover

The Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee has celebrated its milestone 100th birthday all year long. The festivities continue in October and will feature several Opry 100 Birthday shows plus other events that will celebrate the venue's milestone birthday, including Amazon Music's Country Heat Takeover on Tuesday October 21 that was announced earlier today. The night will feature some of the most popular artists in country music right now stepping into the famous circle, including Lainey Wilson, Lauren Alaina, Russell Dickerson, and my favorite duo, Dan + Shay.

The duo have performed on the famed stage twice in their careers. The first time was their debut performance on February 1, 2014. The second time was in 2024 for the Opry Country Christmas television special that aired on NBC December 16. Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney performed their original holiday songs “Take Me Home For Christmas” and “Holiday Party” during the show.

You can listen to the show on WSM Radio’s website or by tuning into the station on the radio or on your smart speaker at 650 AM.

I am very excited to listen to this show, especially for Dan + Shay! I know they will blow the live and at-home audiences away with their performance(s)!

Dan + Shay Put Their Unique Stamp On Justin Bieber's Hit "Anyone"

Dan + Shay have performed short covers of songs from the biggest county artists like Thomas Rhett, Sam Hunt, and Old Dominion and the biggest pop artists like Niall Horan, Ed Sheeran, and Julia Michaels. Stay tuned for my future reviews of those covers and more! The duo have even covered superstar's songs, including Justin Bieber's "Anyone" on March 4, 2021!

With Shay Mooney's gorgeous falsetto and Dan Smyers' beautiful harmonies and piano playing spread throughout the clip, this is another one of those covers that left me wanting more. I still want them to post a full video of this song because it is so good. What I love most is that Dan + Shay always put their spin on these covers and make them sound like their own.

Below is the clip of the duo pouring their hearts out on "Anyone"! Enjoy!

Dan + Shay Give Dreamy, Initimate Performance of "The Cozy Song" On "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon"

After the release of their Christmas album It's Officially Christmas: The Double Album last October, Dan + Shay performed some of the songs on various talk shows and holiday events throughout the season. One of those was a performance of "The Cozy Song" on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that aired on December 4, 2024. The stage had "cozy" living room vibes that featured Dan Smyers sitting in front of a brown recliner chair and Shay Mooney next to him sitting in a similar chair. It was also decorated with lit-up garland around the front. You can also see lit-up wreaths and lights placed on the walls.

Dan + Shay and their band were dressed in various colored sweaters and turtlenecks, the perfect comfortable, warm attire for the performance. With Smyers playing his acoustic guitar while providing his unforgettable harmonies and Mooney's silky lead vocals telling the the intimate story from start to finish, it was a dreamy, mesmerizing performance that I could watch over and over again.

The duo did not need the holiday decorations and chairs to give the flawless performance. They could have just been standing on the stage singing and I still would have enjoyed it. In this case though, the recliner chairs and Christmas decorations did not distract me from watching them perform. Rather, they enhanced the environment and performance in the best way possible.

Please enjoy the video below of Dan + Shay performing "The Cozy Song" On The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon!

Dan + Shay Post Video Of Multiple Crowds Singing Back "Tequila" Chorus To Them

There is no doubt that "Tequila" was the first song that launched Dan + Shay's careers into the stratosphere. Once their fans learned all of the words to the song (which did not take very long!), Dan Smyers was known to take out his cell phone onstage so he could document the moment. After the show, he would post a clip of the crowd singing the chorus back to them to their social media accounts.

I finally got to experience this for the first time live when I saw Dan + Shay at Van Andel arena on March 14, 2024. I got chills when the entire arena sang back the chorus to the Grammy award-winning duo onstage.

Prior to that, I watched the majority of the videos they posted on social media of audiences across the United States, Canada, and other countries of this moment during each concert. While it is not the same as seeing it live, I was still in awe after watching each one. If you have not had the chance to attend a Dan + Shay concert and hear them perform this song, I highly recommend it! From the crowd singing back the chorus to Mooney hitting the high note at the end, it is quite the experience!

Below is a compilation video the duo posted to their YouTube channel on July 24, 2018 of multiple crowds across the country singing the chorus back to them, including concerts in Tampa, Florida, Charlotte, North Carolina, and Traverse City, Michigan! Enjoy!

Dan + Shay Share Impressive Acoustic Cover of Hunter Hayes' Second Single "Wanted"

Three years before I found Dan + Shay’s music on Spotify, I was a massive fan of country music artist Hunter Hayes. His his first two albums (the self-titled debut and  and Storyline) are my favorites, especially the first one. I was very impressed to find out he wrote all of the songs and played all of the instruments on the launching project (He co-produced both albums with Dann Huff.).

I finally got to see him play live for the first time at B-93’s Birthday Bash, my local country radio station’s summer concert festival on June 8, 2013. Hayes' energy was infectious and brought many in the crowd to their feet. I was on my feet dancing singing along to all of his songs!

Fast forward to 2014 when Hunter Hayes invited Dan + Shay to open for him on his We're Not Invisible and Tattoo (Your Name) tours. This was their first time touring in the country music world. Stay tuned for future posts about Dan + Shay's performances on Hayes' tours.

Two years later on August 3, 2016, the duo posted a short acoustic cover of them singing a portion of Hayes' second single "Wanted" on their YouTube channel. The romantic track follows the male lead and what he does to make his female partner feel special. Hearing Shay Mooney's passionate vocals paired with Dan Smyers' beautiful harmonies are as pure as ever as they sing the first verse and dive into the chorus. When both of them join together signing the chorus, I cannot get over how tight their voices are together.

To me, Hayes and Dan + Shay are similar in that they both write the majority of their songs and you can tell that each one came from personal experiences at some point in their lives. Next, Hayes has co-produced all of his albums with Dann Huff while Smyers has produced all of Dan + Shay's albums with Scott Hendricks. Finally, both artists are energetic, genuine entertainers when I have seen them perform in concert.

Below is Dan + Shay's cover of "Wanted"! Enjoy!

Dan + Shay Blow Me Away With Cover of Luke Combs’ First Number One Hit “Hurricane”

Luke Combs is one of the biggest names in country music today. His debut single "Hurricane" hit country radio in October, 2016 and it created massive success quickly for the star. He has had numerous number one hits since then. Like Dan + Shay, Combs is an incredible songwriter who pulls you in with the words he writes, whether he is singing about drinking beer and having a good time in "Beer Never Broke My Heart" or serenading his wife in a love song like "Beautiful Crazy".

Dan + Shay have been known to release short covers from many of the fellow artists they look up to, which includes Combs. On December 17, 2016, they posted a beautiful, yet powerful cover of Combs's soon-to-be first number one hit "Hurricane on their social media and YouTube channels. While I have always enjoyed the star's studio version of this song, Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney's acoustic version of the first verse and chorus was refreshing. With Smyers on the acoustic guitar and singing harmonies during the chorus and Mooney stretching some of the notes and ending the lines with the highest part of his range, the duo has left me wanting them to release a full version of this cover. The same goes for every single short cover they have posted throughout the years. They are that good!

Below is Dan + Shay's cover of "Hurricane"! Enjoy!

2) “Bigger Houses” - The overall message of this song means so much to me. It is not really a karaoke song, but it would be for me!

3) “Save Me The Trouble” - Even though I cannot sing to save my life, I would still have fun and belt it out! This is my favorite big vocal of theirs to date!

4) “Steal My Love” - It is such a fun, catchy song that would be fun to sing and dance to!

5) “Tequila” - I cannot relate to this song, but it is definitely one of my favorites from that era of music and I know all of the words! It is the first song that really launched Dan + Shay’s careers into the stratosphere!

Happy Birthday To Dan Smyers’ Kind, Big-Hearted, Animal Loving Wife, Abby Smyers!

While I have always followed Dan + Shay as a duo and individually on social media since I became a fan, I have also followed their wives on Twitter (now X) and Instagram. I have been following Dan’s wife Abby since 2014 and Shay’s wife Hannah when they met later on. I met Abby at my first Dan + Shay show on October 12, 2014. She was hanging out in the meet + greet line after the concert and I got to say hello and chat with her while I waited to meet my favorite duo. She was very friendly and sweet like she is on social media. I only wish I had thought to take a picture with her, but hopefully we can make that happen in the future! I would also love to meet her and Dan’s rescue dogs, Chief, Joy, Ghost, and Macaroni (Mac for short) if they bring them out on the road next time. All four dogs appear on their social media accounts very often!

Today is Abby’s birthday! I want to wish her a very happy birthday! πŸ₯³πŸŽ‰ In addition to her being friendly and sweet when I met her like I mentioned earlier, I also admire her big, caring, generous, and kind heart in everything she does.

She took to her Instagram account earlier in the day to promote Wags And Walks Nashville, an animal shelter she opened with her friend Kathryn Hurley in 2023. The reel shows Abby at just one of the animal shelters outside of Nashville where the dogs are being treated well by the employees, but are not living in the best environment. She shares in the video that this is prevalent in the South because “their resources are severely limited.” At the end of the video, she explains why it is so important to adopt a dog! Abby also shared an adoable clip of her loving on three dogs (and 15 others) who were brought to safety at Wags And Walks Nashville! The caption under the reel reads, "Thanks to @wagsandwalksnasvhille for stepping up for these kids. Support your local rescue for my birthday πŸ˜‰, they need us."

If you are able to donate to Abby and Kathryn’s Nashville animal rescue and/or your local animal shelter/rescue in honor of her birthday today or any other day during the year, I highly encourage you to give whatever you can to make a difference for animals! You can make a one-time donation or a monthly donation to Wags and Walks Nashville at the link below!

Taylor Swift Takes Selfie With Dan + Shay At 2022 “American Music Awards”, Create Excitement

I do not know about you, but I have been a massive fan of Taylor Swift since her self-titled debut country  album came out in 2006. I have a physical copy of all of her country albums. Ever since she has crossed over to the pop genre, while I am not as familiar with all of the albums and songs, the tracks I have heard, I still absolutely love her songwriting. It is pure gold. I have been digging more deeply into her pop albums lately so I can learn all of the lyrics to every single song!

I have been lucky enough to see her in concert a few times, the first time when hardly anyone knew she was! While I do not fully remember it, she was one of the free musical entertainers at a local food festival. My dad said she played an acoustic set on her guitar. I wish I had a better memory of that day! The last time I saw Swift live was on her Speak Now tour, her last country tour. I went with one of my college friends and she put on one heck of a show! I hope I get at least one more chance to see Swift live in concert since it has been so long! But I am grateful for the times I have been able to attend her concerts. I technically “attended” the Eras Tour if you count watching it on Disney+!

Dan + Shay are also big fans of the global superstar. They covered her pop song “Bad Blood” in the past, which I will write about in a future post.

Fast forward to November 23, 2022 when the duo took to their Instagram account and posted an epic selfie that Swift took at The American Music Awards three days prior. Smyers and Swift are smiling while it looks like Mooney is saying “Wow!” and it almost seems like he is photobombing the picture from the back! “so good to see you @taylorswift”, the caption read. I could not stop smiling when I saw this picture of the superstar with my favorite country music duo!

I am holding out hope that one day Dan + Shay will collaborate with Swift! The trio are incredible vocalists, songwriters, and musicians! If this happens, it will bring a lot of joy into my life!

At the start of this post is the selfie that Dan + Shay posted on their Instagram account November 23, 2022! 🀳

Shay Mooney And Wife Hannah Welcome Fourth Son Aubrey In January

Shay Mooney and his wife Hannah have been blessed with four handsome boys. Asher is the oldest, followed by Ames and Abram. The newest addition to their family is Aubrey who the couple welcomed into the world earlier this year. On January 21st, Hannah took to her Instagram account and posted some adorable pictures of their handsome newborn son. Her caption under the post read, Our brand new baby BOY is finally here! Aubrey Ellis Mooney. 7 lbs 9 ounces + perfectly healthy! Thank you Jesus for another miracle! πŸ₯Ί”

Dan Smyers wife Abby commented “Sweet boy is here!” on the post while country artist Gabby Barrett wrote, “God has truly chosen you to raise mighty men of faith. Your home is a testament to His blessings and your strength. Congratulations and many blessings sweet Hannah! ❤️”

Stay tuned for plenty more future posts about the Mooney family!

At the top of this post is one of the pictures from Hannah’s Instagram post on January 21st!

Blog Reader Participation: This Dan + Shay Song Or That Dan + Shay Song?

This post is similar to the one I wrote on August 17th, but the question behind it is different, except the song I chose is the same!

If you could live in one of Dan + Shay's songs for the rest of your life, which one would it be and why? After you read which song I would pick, please head to the comment section of this post and answer the question as well! I am excited to see everyone’s answers! I want to see as much participation as possible! 😊

There are quite a few songs that come to mind, but two of them that I would want to live in for the rest of my life. I have it narrowed down to "Bigger Houses" and "Glad You Exist". While the overall message of both songs is to appreciate what you have, including the people in your life, I think I more closely relate to “Bigger Houses”. I have been blessed to have a very nice living situation throughout my life so far, but when it comes to happiness, it does not necessarily live in our house. Happiness lives in the wonderful relationship I have with my parents, sister, brother-in-law, other relatives, former co-workers, and friends. It lives in my passion for writing that I get to share with you all daily. It lives in the television shows I watch and the books I read during downtime. It also lives in all of the time that I spend listening to Dan + Shay’s library of songs each day, including when I take a walk! My list of things that make me happy and that I am grateful for could go on forever, but the things I have listed above are what bring me joy on a daily basis!

Flashback Friday To When Dan + Shay Performed "Officially Christmas" on "The Voice" Finale

In honor of today being Flashback Friday, I am going back to December 10, 2024 when Dan + Shay performed their upbeat original Christmas song "Officially Christmas" on "The Voice" finale. With Dan Smyers wearing a white turtleneck shirt, a white suit coat, and black pants and Shay Mooney wearing a tuxedo, the duo looked sharp on stage.

Mooney's vocals and Smyers' harmonies were crisp and tight as always during the entire performance. To enhance the experience, the duo were backed by a small orchestra who sounded beautiful. And to make the stage look festive, Dan + Shay's microphone stands were wrapped with a big red bow. There were also lit Christmas trees on the stage and on the video screen behind them.

Stay tuned for several future Christmas related posts from the songs on their studio album to their other television performances, and so much more!

While I love all of Dan + Shay's regular studio albums, their Christmas album has an extra dose of joy and magic on it. When I have had an off day here and there this year, I turned it on and listening to it made me feel better!

Dan + Shay Cover Rascal Flatts' Hit Song "My Wish"

In my post from August 27th where I wrote a summary about Dan + Shay's first stops out East on their very first radio tour in 2013-2014, I mentioned that Shay Mooney stated country music trio Rascal Flatts was one of his biggest influences growing up. In fact early on, some people thought that the new duo sounded like Rascal Flatts. I was able to hear that similarity on a couple of their songs early on, but overall, I really thought that Dan Smyers and Mooney had their own distinctive sound, especially hearing Smyers' harmonies flowing extremely well alongside his partner's lead vocals. The one song of theirs that sounds like a Rascal Flatts song to me is "Let Me Get Over Her" from the Good Things album. Stay tuned for a future post with my commentary on that heartbreak track.

The duo have also had a hand in writing four of Rascal Flatts' songs over the years and they also went on tour with the group in 2018. I have plenty more to say on those topics in future posts as well!

Since Dan + Shay have these connections with the country music group, they have posted some covers of their previous hits. One of them was "My Wish", which they posted on their YouTube channel and social media outlets on June 23, 2016. The duo performed a flawless version of the song's chorus. If you listen very closely, you can hear Smyers' gorgeous harmonies, which are equal with Mooney's soaring lead vocal. The harmonist and producer of the duo is also playing his acoustic guitar. At the end when Mooney is singing "my wish", the talented vocalist extended the note on both of the words, showing off his range.

Below is the video of Dan + Shay covering "My Wish". Enjoy!

Dan + Shay Share Short Highlight Reel Of Grand Rapids, Michigan Stop on 2017 "Obsessed" Tour

Whether it is a short highlight video, a post with several pictures and a long caption beneath it, or a combination of the two, Dan + Shay have always took time after many of their concerts to reflect on the experience and share it with their fans on social media.

When the duo embarked on their Obsessed tour in 2017, they posted a short video after each show. I attended the Grand Rapids, Michigan show at 20 Monroe live on April 6th with my friend and her husband. The venue, which was new to the area at the time, holds over 2,000 people and this was the largest crowd I saw them perform in front of as headliners. There was standing room only space on the main floor and reserved seating in the balcony. The three of us stood in the middle of the pack downstairs.

On April 8th, Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney took to their social media accounts and YouTube channel to post a recap of the concert, which included footage of the crowd and the duo backstage preparing to go out on stage.

Both guys have always been comical and goofy on social media, especially in the first few years of their careers. Mooney stated a fact about my hometown with a hint of sarcasm in his voice.

"A little unknown fact that you might not know about Grand Rapids, Michigan," the lead vocalist said. "Back in 1942, this is where beer was founded."

Next, the screen had the correct fact in all caps. It read, "Incorrect. Beer actually founded in Mesopotamia in 7000 BC."

Next, there was footage of the duo, their band, and some crew members standing in a circle for the pre-show huddle, with Mooney showing off his wide vocal range, singing the introduction to the "Circle Of Life" from The Lion King. Then Dan + Shay and their band headed down to the stage A full shot of the crowd is shown, but I cannot pick myself, my friend, and her husband out. Footage from the concert is shown with Dan + Shay's song "Sway" playing in the background. At the end, the guys are seen exiting the stage.

Stay tuned for a future post where I break down this concert!

Dan Smyers And Wife Abby Support Their Hometown Teams During National Football League Season

On Thursday September 4, the National Football League season kicked off with a game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Los Angeles Chargers that was played internationally in Sao Palo, Brazil. The Eagles showed up and played a lot better than the Chiefs did. Today, the New York Jets hosted the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Steelers pulled out the victory.

Ever since I became a Dan + Shay fan, I have followed Smyers and his wife Abby's interests outside of music, one of them being sports. Dan was born and raised in Wexford, Pennsylvania and grew up rooting for the Steelers. Abby, his significant other, was born and raised in a suburb of Kansas City and grew up rooting for the Chiefs. The couple still root for their respective hometown teams to this day.

On January 15, 2017, Smyers posted a picture of him wearing a Steelers sweatshirt with Abby next to him him wearing her Chiefs hooded sweatshirt. While the Smyers' always support one another, the household is a bit divided when their two teams play each other. He captioned the post, "We are not talking for the next 4 hours. Go @STEELERS! 🏈"

On September 10, 2020, Abby posted a picture of herself outside their home in a Chiefs number 15 jersey, which belongs to the quarterback Patrick Mahomes. She has a big smile on her face with her arms raised up in the air. She captioned the post, "She's ready. GO CHIEFS!!!"

Dan + Shay Personally Take Time To Sign “Good Things” Albums For Their Fans

One of the things I love most about Dan + Shay is how much they truly care about their fans. They have very busy schedules making music, touring, appearing on various television programs, and beyond. Yet they always find time to dedicate time to their fans, whether it is meeting them before or after shows and interacting with them on social media, just to name a couple of examples.

Another thing they have done for a while is personally taking the time to sign copies of their albums. Prior to the release of their 2021 Good Things album, the duo posted a short video of them singing the chorus of their smash hit "10,000 Hours" while signing their names on all of the project's booklets seen on the table. I received a personal signed copy of the album, a t-shirt, and a personal signed copy of the handwritten lyrics to the album's title track ("Good Things") in my Good Things box in September, 2021. Stay tuned for a future post about the exciting promotion surrounding this project!

I am very grateful that all six of their studio albums, which incudes their Christmas album, were signed by Dan + Shay. When I met the guys at The Intersection in October 2014, they signed my Where It All Began album. I saw them at the same venue in October, 2015 and they signed their Obsessed album during the pre-show meet + greet. With other four albums (Dan + Shay, Good Things, Bigger Houses, and Officially Christmas: The Double Album), I ordered them on the duo’s website and the personally signed albums were delivered to my house.

Below is the video of the guys personally signing copies of their Good Things album!

Dan + Shay Cover Song From The First Country Artist I Was Introduced To, Kenny Chesney

I grew up being exposed to multiple music genres, the biggest one being pop. Late in my grade school years, you could find me listening to N*SYNC, The Backstreet Boys, and Britney Spears, among others. Those three were my favorite artists who I listened to the most. I eventually became a fan of Avril Lavigne, who was in the alternative rock genre. Her voice was unique and her lyrics were genius to me. Even though I probably did not understand the complex subjects of her songs at the time, I loved singing along to her most popular songs, which included "Complicated" and "I'm With You".

In seventh grade, I remember one of my friends introduced me to country music and one of the songs I heard when listening to the radio was "Red Dirt Road" by Brooks & Dunn. I liked the song, but I was not quite hooked. I believe it was later on that school year or for sure in eighth grade, one of my classmates would play Kenny Chesney's When The Sun Goes Down album during gym class when we were all hanging out. I remember being attracted to Chesney's voice and his songs that included catchy lyrics. I love his summertime upbeat anthems like "When The Sun Goes Down" and "Keg In The Closet", as well as some ballads like "There Goes My Life" and "Anything But Mine", and every other song on that album. Up until I started attending Dan + Shay concerts (I have seen them six times so far), I had seen Chesney, Carrie Underwood, and Brad Paisley the most at three times a piece. At that point, country music became my absolute favorite genre and it still is to this day.

Fast forward to June 23, 2016 when my favorite country duo Dan + Shay posted a cover of Kenny Chesney's heartbreak ballad "Anything But Mine" on their YouTube channel and social media accounts. The duo put their signature stamp on the chorus with Shay Mooney drawing out some of the notes and Dan Smyers joining in with his distinct harmonies while playing his guitar. This cover was way too short and the guys left me wanting a full acoustic version, but better yet, a full recorded studio version. I feel the same way about every other cover the duo have posted because each one is excellent.

Below is the "Anything But Mine Cover" courtesy of their YouTube channel. Enjoy! And stay tuned for plenty more Dan + Shay cover posts in the coming weeks and months!

Dan + Shay Use Simple Concepts For "Heartbreak On The Map" Music Video

Dan + Shay have always done a great job when it comes to the creation of music videos set to their hits and non-radio songs. Dan Smyers' friend Patrick Tracy has also been heavily involved with the majority of these clips. Some of them are fun and crazy ("We Should Get Married" and "Steal My Love", for example), some had a script that followed the song's story ("From The Ground Up" and "19 You + Me, for example), others have a different storyline from the song's original story ("Tequila" and "How Not To"), while the majority of them are simple; they feature the duo lip-syncing the lyrics while the track is played in the background ("For The Both Of Us" and "Heartbreak On The Map, for example). Stay tuned for future posts where I break down each of these music videos as well as every other music video Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney have released over the years! In this post, I will break down the "Heartbreak On The Map" clip.

"Heartbreak On The Map", which aptly was the name of the duo's 2024 Winter and Spring tour, was in the first batch of new tracks that was released on July 14, 2023. The music video for the song was also released at that time and features the duo lip syncing the lyrics in three different scenes: the two guys sitting at a booth in a bar, Mooney driving both of them around town in a vehicle, and Dan + Shay sitting on stage (on barstools) at a bar performing.

You watch all three scenes multiple times throughout the clip. It opens with the duo sitting at the booth inside the bar with rain pouring down on the window next to them. Smyers has his legs and feet up on his side of the booth while he lip syncs his harmonies and plays his acoustic guitar. On the other side of the booth is Mooney who is sitting and lip syncing. There is a whiskey glass in front of both Smyers and Mooney holding some sort of alcohol. They do mention whiskey in the lyrics, so maybe that is what is in their glasses!

The second scene features Mooney driving a vehicle down the road and lip syncing the lyrics while Smyers is lip syncing in the passenger seat, with his right arm and hand hanging onto the outside of the car. The viewer does not see what type of vehicle they are driving, as only the inside is shown during the clip. The song features lyrics about states where the girl might be now who broke up with the guy, so I believe that this scene represents those lyrics in the chorus.

In the last scene, the guys are featured sitting on barstools up on a stage at a bar. Once again, Smyers is lip syncing his harmonies and pretending to play his guitar. On the other hand, Mooney is sitting right beside him lip syncing the lead vocal. During this scene, you can see someone shooting pool in the distance.

I love this music video because it simple and to the point. There are no gimmicks that get in the way of the duo performing the lyrics in each scene. When this clip first came out, I had it on repeat for quite a while. I was also able to really connect to the lyrics because I had and still am experiencing heartbreak from loss of a few close family members earlier in 2023 as well as in 2022. Stay tuned for a future post where I break down the story of the song and talk more about my connection with it!

Below is the music video for "Heartbreak On The Map" courtesy of Dan + Shay's YouTube channel! Enjoy!

Dan + Shay Blow Me Away With Acoustic Clip of "Save Me The Trouble"

As I mentioned in my post yesterday about Dan + Shay's performance of their first hit song "Nothin' Like You" in March, 2015, the duo always steal my heart whenever they sing an acoustic song. There is something about Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney sitting down with a guitar or at the piano and only hearing the instrument and their beautiful voices that puts an extra large smile on my face. They always sound excellent with their voices recorded on their studio albums, when they perform live backed by their full band, and when they sing an acoustic song or perform an acoustic set at an event, such as a concert. You can really hone in on their voices. I could listen to them sing acoustically or even a-Capella (Check out my post from May 25 when I broke down the studio version of the duo singing "Silent Night" a-Capella) on repeat because the duo is that talented and I truly love their voices!

In the clip at the end of this post from November 14, 2023, the duo sang the chorus of their number one song "Save Me The Trouble". If you listen to this one closely, you can hear Smyers' harmonies, his guitar playing, and Mooney's vocals soared to the top. You can also see the expressions on their faces while performing match the tone of the song's subject. They end the video with Mooney being funny while he turns off the camera. If you watched the throwback video of Dan + Shay singing "Nothin' Like You" in 2015 at the bottom of my post from yesterday and then watch today's video, you will really be able to tell how far the duo have come since the beginning of their careers. Even to this day, they continue to get better by working on their craft. That is something I truly admire about the duo.

Enjoy the acoustic clip below courtesy of Dan + Shay's YouTube channel Shorts page!
