Dan + Shay Cover Song From The First Country Artist I Was Introduced To, Kenny Chesney

I grew up being exposed to multiple music genres, the biggest one being pop. Late in my grade school years, you could find me listening to N*SYNC, The Backstreet Boys, and Britney Spears, among others. Those three were my favorite artists who I listened to the most. I eventually became a fan of Avril Lavigne, who was in the alternative rock genre. Her voice was unique and her lyrics were genius to me. Even though I probably did not understand the complex subjects of her songs at the time, I loved singing along to her most popular songs, which included "Complicated" and "I'm With You".

In seventh grade, I remember one of my friends introduced me to country music and one of the songs I heard when listening to the radio was "Red Dirt Road" by Brooks & Dunn. I liked the song, but I was not quite hooked. I believe it was later on that school year or for sure in eighth grade, one of my classmates would play Kenny Chesney's When The Sun Goes Down album during gym class when we were all hanging out. I remember being attracted to Chesney's voice and his songs that included catchy lyrics. I love his summertime upbeat anthems like "When The Sun Goes Down" and "Keg In The Closet", as well as some ballads like "There Goes My Life" and "Anything But Mine", and every other song on that album. Up until I started attending Dan + Shay concerts (I have seen them six times so far), I had seen Chesney, Carrie Underwood, and Brad Paisley the most at three times a piece. At that point, country music became my absolute favorite genre and it still is to this day.

Fast forward to June 23, 2016 when my favorite country duo Dan + Shay posted a cover of Kenny Chesney's heartbreak ballad "Anything But Mine" on their YouTube channel and social media accounts. The duo put their signature stamp on the chorus with Shay Mooney drawing out some of the notes and Dan Smyers joining in with his distinct harmonies while playing his guitar. This cover was way too short and the guys left me wanting a full acoustic version, but better yet, a full recorded studio version. I feel the same way about every other cover the duo have posted because each one is excellent.

Below is the "Anything But Mine Cover" courtesy of their YouTube channel. Enjoy! And stay tuned for plenty more Dan + Shay cover posts in the coming weeks and months!
