One example of this is on the duo's song "Take Me Home For Christmas". On December 24, 2020, Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney posted an acoustic version of their first ever original Christmas song to their social media channels.
In a small room decorated with lights and a Christmas tree, Smyers, Mooney, their guitarist Justin Richards and their second guitarist and keyboard player Izzac Burkhart are seen sitting around a table. Microphones are set up in front of everyone. With Richards and Smyers on acoustic guitars, Burkhard playing the keyboard, and Mooney on lead vocals, this acoustic performance was a real treat for me. Even when they play an acoustic song, Mooney can still show off his insane vocal range and he sure did on this one! You can hear Smyers' harmonies on the "Take me home's" during the chorus and throughout this performance. I had not really heard Richards and Burkhardt sing background vocals and harmonies until I listened to this video. The duo's vocals are normally front and center, so it was nice to hear their band members singing and playing their respective instruments in this video. Their voices blended in really well with Dan + Shay's vocals. Everyone also looked like they were genuinely having fun while filming the video for this upbeat, spirited holiday song!
