#ThrowbackThursday to the last time I had the opportunity to meet Dan + Shay in person when they played The Intersection in Grand Rapids, Michigan on October 18, 2015. I cannot believe that this was almost 11 years ago, but I remember the meet and greet and concert pretty well. I also remember that their song "Nothin' Like You" was climbing the country radio chart at the time, and would become their first number one hit later that year on December 7th!
Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney were still promoting their debut Where It All Began album at the end of 2015. I could not stop listening to that incredible record on repeat. Listening to all 12 songs the first time made me fall in love with the duo, especially their radio singles "19 You + Me" and "Nothin' Like You".
To this day, I still feel like a kid on Christmas morning or a kid in a candy store when the duo starts to tease new music. When new songs come out and the day the entire album is released, I still stay up past midnight to listen to the new masterpieces on repeat several times! The long wait is always very much worth being tired the next day!
Smyers and Mooney have grown so much vocally, in the production area, and as songwriters over the past 12 years since I became a fan. While I have seen all of the growth in those areas, the excitement I have to hear new music remains the same. In addition to that, Dan + Shay are still the same humble, genuine human beings who write and sing the most honest, genuine songs.
Earlier today, the duo teased a short :24 clip of a new song called "Young" from their upcoming album. You can hear the sample clip at the bottom of my post. The new track will be released on Thursday May 14th at 11 pm CDT/Friday May 15th at midnight EDT. Featuring an acoustic version of the new emotional tune, you can really hear Smyers' vocals and harmonies along with his beautiful guitar playing and Mooney's vocals soar and are full of raw emotion. I cannot wait to hear the full song in one week and give you a full review of the vocals, story, and production! From only hearing part of it, I know already know this is going to be a special song for the duo and their fans.
