If you read my blog post on June 4, 2024, you might remember my commentary on Dan + Shay's acoustic piano version of their heartbreak hit "I Should Probably Go To Bed" that they recorded at Ocean Way Studio in Nashville.
On October 14, 2020, Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney posted another clip of them singing the tune to their YouTube channel, but this time with the producer (Smyers) on guitar while singing harmony and the lead vocalist (Mooney) playing the tambourine while singing. Both members of the award-winning country music duo set themselves up outside with their microphones in a quiet field full of trees. The video was shot either early in the morning or late at night on an autumn day, as you can see the pink and purple sky above the guys. During the performance, you can see birds flying around. They can also be heard chirping at the beginning and end of the video.
Whether the duo performs indoors or outdoors, they always sound incredible. Smyers' acoustic guitar filled the space very nicely and his harmonies were well placed throughout this outdoor, nature-filled performance. On the other hand, Mooney crushed the vocals throughout the song per usual. He showed off the falsetto side of his voice and hit all of the high notes like he does on the studio version of "I Should Probably Go To Bed". Both members of the duo conveyed the frustrating emotion of the song in their facial expressions, while Mooney also expressed that emotions through his body language and hand gestures (when he wasn't playing the tambourine) throughout the relaxed, outdoor performance.
Over the years, Dan + Shay have posted many cool acoustic versions of their other hits like "Tequila", "You", and "Speechless". Stay tuned for most posts about those tunes! In the near future, I hope the guys make acoustic videos with some of their new songs that will be released soon!
Below is the outdoor acoustic clip of "I Should Probably Go To Bed" courtesy of the duos YouTube channel for you to enjoy!
