"Throwback Thursday" to just over two years of being a fan of Dan + Shay. I feel extremely lucky and grateful to have seen the duo in concert six times so far. They are truly my favorite artists to see live, listen to on Spotify, and interact with on social media. When the guys announced that they were going to have a concert in the field house at my alma mater Grand Valley State University on April 7, 2016, I knew that I absolutely needed to attend. I also knew it would be a special show for me. My friend Sarah was my plus-one for the evening and we both had the best time. She was not a huge country music fan up to that point, but during college and after the 2016 concert, I think my love for the genre rubbed off on her. She became a Dan + Shay fan after the phenomenal show they put on.
Playing for one of the biggest crowds up to that point in their career, Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney performed songs from their first two albums, Where It All Began and Obsessed as well as some covers (songs they sang by other artists). While I was excited to hear many of the tracks from these two albums like number one hits "Nothin' Like You" and "How Not To", I was most excited to hear their new single at the time, "From The Ground Up" live. This song was a step up from the love songs on their first album. It was inspired by their sets of grandparents who were each married for many years. I was emotional hearing it live for the first time and the guys did not disappoint with their vocals, harmonies, and energy on the stage. These things rang true over the course of their entire set. Dan + Shay introduced so many college students, alumni, and beyond to their music. It was truly a night that I will never forget.
Stay tuned for future posts with videos I took at this concert! Below is an awesome picture I took of Dan + Shay performing! I love the color of the lights and background they had for their set!
