Dan + Shay released "Tequila", the first single from their upcoming third self-titled album, on January 9, 2018, a song that would catapult their careers to a whole new level. Less than two months later, the duo was invited to perform their new single on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show", which aired on March 1, 2018.
I used to watch her show every day and catch up on episodes on our DVR when I got behind. I remember DeGeneres always used to feature the best of the best when it came to music artists, no matter how long they had been around. She and her staff saw something special with the duo and that meant a lot to me, as well as the fact that they were invited to perform on her show not once, but twice! Stay tuned for a future post about their first time on her show when they performed "From The Ground Up" in 2016.
The tall doors behind DeGeneres featured a massive image of the duo, Smyers dressed in a colorful Hawaiian-themed short-sleeved shirt and black pants while Mooney wore a black zippered leather jacket over a black t-shirt and black pants. Smyers and Mooney both held a blue SOLO Cup in honor of the song title.
"Our next guests are the biggest duo in country music who sing about something I love", DeGeneres said. "Here to perform "Tequila", please welcome Dan + Shay." The doors behind DeGeneres opened to show the duo backed by their band. The audience applauded and the duo started their performance. They gave a solid performance of their new single, which showcased Smyers' harmonies and Mooney's extensive vocal range. The duo and their band members looked like they were all enjoying themselves being on the iconic talk show hosts set as they told the story that details a past relationship.
At the end while the audience gave the duo a round of applause, DeGeneres headed to the stage to give them both a hug and plugged "Tequila". She told the TV and studio audience they can stream the song on Spotify.
