One of the songs that Dan + Shay released prior to their Bigger Houses album coming out in 2023 was "We Should Get Married". I thought it would be a slow, romantic song when I first read the title. However, I was wrong on the slow part! The duo fooled me with that part of the track. Stay tuned for future posts where I will profile the song lyrics, vocals, and production as well as one with my commentary on the full music video.
Before they delivered the song to the world, the duo released a short clip of the start of the music video on social media and YouTube to spark the curiosity of their fans and raise the excitement level.
The scene is set. Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney are sitting in their dressing room getting ready to perform one of their love songs at a wedding. Smyers is dressed in a full tuxedo while Mooney is wearing a white shirt, bow tie, and black pants. The wedding planner knocks on the door and begins to engage with the duo. She is talking very fast and gets her point across to the guys.
"So, look, this is the program," she begins. "You're gonna go out, you're going to do that first dance. We need you to do your song and be out of there because then we have the DJ coming, we need to get people up and dancing."
Next, the wedding planner confronts the duo about all of the slow wedding songs they have previously released.
"I'm sorry, but you're just not that bad, right?", she said. They shake their heads at her. "Okay, perfect. So I'll check in later, right, right, okay? Perfect, thank you."
After she leaves the room, Mooney looks over at Smyers. Dialogue commences between the duo.
"Everyone thinks we're just the ballad guys, the first dance guys, so frustrating," Mooney says.
"We don't need a DJ to get the people out on the dance floor," Smyers exclaims. "We got songs for that."
" I think we should just go rogue and play the song," Mooney says.
"That song?", Smyers says.
"The song," Mooney replies.
Then you hear Mooney singing "Oh, we should get married" and it goes fast through some scenes from the music video, ending with a scene of the bride and groom, Joan Collins and Michael Jordan, getting married at the 24 Hr Drive Up Wedding Window in Las Vegas.
