Although the COVID-19 pandemic was ongoing in December, 2020 and precautions were still in effect, the CMA (Country Music Association) Country Christmas special was still able to film at a location in Nashville, Tennessee. The only difference that year was its location and that there was no audience.
Dan + Shay were invited to the event and they performed their original song, "Christmas Isn't Christmas". Both members of the duo looked sharp, dressed in black tuxedos. The set they performed on had living room vibes. It was decorated for the holidays with pre-lit Christmas trees and wreaths. With Dan on the piano and vocals and Shay singing lead vocals, the guys gave a beautiful, harmony-filled performance of their sentimental ballad. Shay's vocals were flawless and you could hear Dan's harmonies backing him up. The cameras panned all around the duo during the performance and at the end, they received a round of applause from the crew who were distant from them in the room.
The duo always gives a no-gimmick performance, whether it is on tv or at their concerts. This performance was no exception. There were no distractions in the background; all eyes were on the guys telling the story with their emotional Christmas song.
Stay tuned for more posts about this song, including my commentary of the songs lyrics and message, and what it means to me, another on the music video with some behind-the-scenes information, and my commentary of other TV performances they have done over the last last five years.
