I Want To Read Feedback From My Readers - At The Three Month Mark Of Starting My Blog

I started this blog on May 14th and have been writing daily posts for just over three months now. I truly am enjoying blogging about Dan + Shay, my favorite country music duo every day. In the last month, I have been trying to do a mix of shorter and longer posts to keep things interesting. I have also been doing a mix of posts, from breaking down Dan + Shay songs and their music videos to posting my social media trivia questions, breaking down their talk show and award show performances, and posting about their short content videos from YouTube. I also have done my monthly fan spotlight pieces and my trips down memory lane with the duo.

I want to hear from my readers! I have a list of questions so I can improve your reading experience and also improve my blog. I would truly appreciate your answers and feedback. Please leave a comment below and put a number before each of your answers.

1) What type of posts that I listed above do you enjoy reading the most? What other types of posts do you want to see that I have not done yet? What type of posts do you not like?

2) For those of you who follow my Facebook and Instagram pages, do you enjoy the weekly content I do on there (Music Monday, Trivia Tuesday, Welcome Wednesday, Throwback Thursday, Flashback Friday)? Do you feel like it is easy to participate in each activity, especially the Monday-Wednesday ones that require some sort of participation?

3) Is it easy for you to find my blog? I include a link to each of my blog posts in a Facebook post every day. I also post a picture related to the post on my Instagram account and the link to my blog is in my bio. Do you find it easy to navigate to my bio to get to my blog and the most recent post?

-As a friendly reminder, I invite you to follow my Facebook and Instagram pages if you have not already.

4) When I post my social media trivia question on my blog each week or any posts where I ask for participation, is it easy for you to navigate to the comment section to post your answers? If it is difficult, WHAT specifically makes it difficult? I want to know so I can make it easier for you to participate!

I truly appreciate all of my readers and social media followers being here and I cannot wait to read your feedback and implement it into my blog and posts moving forward!

Where Does Happiness Live In Your Daily Life?

Video courtesy of Dan + Shay’s YouTube channel    from 07/23/2024

Dan + Shay’s latest number one song “Bigger Houses” is about appreciating what you have and not taking them for granted. Stay tuned for a future post where I break down the parts of the song as well as one about the music video!

In the chorus, there is a line that says “the thing about happiness I found is It don’t live in bigger houses.”

For me, happiness lives in smiling daily when I listen to Dan + Shay’s music on repeat. It also lives in attending their incredible live shows when I can. I have been incredibly lucky to see them live in concert six times so far and I hope the seventh time will happen soon!

Outside of Dan + Shay and country music, happiness lives in watching my favorite television shows. In the last year, I have dived into the popular 2000’s show “Gilmore Girls” and I am currently rewatching it for the fourth time! Through that show, I have become a huge fan of Lauren Graham who plays Lorelai Gilmore, one of the main characters on the show. I have watched all of the shows she has had big roles on and I have read three out of four of the books (so far) that she has written.

Finally, happiness lives in spending time with my family and friends every month! I do not know where I would be without any of them!

Where does happiness live for YOU in your daily life? I want to know! Feel free to leave a comment at the bottom of this post with your lists of things that bring you happiness every day and I will make sure to reply with a response this week!

Happy Birthday To Dan Smyers of Dan + Shay!

Happy Birthday to Dan Smyers of Dan + Shay who turns 38 today! From donating money to animal rescues and adoption centers, to rescuing his own dogs who were in terrible situations with his wife Abby, interacting with his fans in person and on social media over the years, including giving them meet + greets before shows, and everything in between, the duo's harmonist and producer has a big heart. He has done a lot for me as a fan and I could not be more grateful for his caring, generous, humble, kind heart over the last 11 years and counting!

Abby Smyers posted a tribute to her husband on Instagram today. "HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MY DANIEL!!! 🎉❤️🎂, she started. “ You are the light of my life and I love you infinitely.” Abby posted some pictures and a video of her husband, including a cute picture of the couple with their dogs Chief, Ghost, Joy, and Mac.

Dan, here's to another trip around the sun! I cannot wait to see all of the wonderful things that are ahead for you in the next year, including hearing what I know will be incredible new music and hopefully attending another Dan + Shay concert!

Below is a screenshot of picture two from Abby's Instagram post as well as my two meet + greet pictures with Dan + Shay!

Dan + Shay Throw Unexpected, but Funny Twist in Christmas Wrapping Paper Photoshoot Challenge In Video

Last year there was a viral Christmas wrapping paper photoshoot with dogs on social media. Owners taped a large piece of wrapping paper between an open doorway and their dogs attempted to make a hole in the middle by planting their faces through it so they could be photographed.

Dan + Shay decided to take on the challenge with Dan Smyers and his wife Abby Smyers' dogs in a social media and YouTube video. However, their attempt failed in the best and funniest way possible! Smyers tapes up the wrapping paper between the open door frame. The couples dogs Chief, Joy, Mac, and Ghost are seen leaving the scene immediately, and the next think you know, Shay Mooney comes in and plants his face through the wrapping paper. With an exuberant and huge grin on his face, the lead vocalist of the duo starts singing lyrics from the duo's original Christmas song "It's Officially Christmas" and then the clip ends.

I have said it before and I will continue to say it: Dan + Shay come up with the most creative, funny, light-hearted, and positive content to post on social media. Stay tuned for more previous and future videos in my upcoming posts!

Enjoy the :12 video below of the duo attempting the challenge!

Dan + Shay 2015 Tour Highlight Video Features Footage From Grand Rapids, Michigan Show

After their Just The Right Kind of Crazy Tour had ended, Dan + Shay posted the "Nothin Like You (Live)" video to their YouTube channel and social media pages. According to information at the bottom of the YouTube video, the footage in this clip was taken by Rob Norris and Taylor Bray added the live audio. The video is set to live audio of "Nothin' Like You" from the tour and highlights from the venues they played, including a few shots from their sold out show that I attended at The Intersection in Grand Rapids, Michigan on October 18, 2015.

To start the video at the :19 mark, there is footage of fans lined up outside in downtown Grand Rapids near the venue waiting to get in. Next, at the 1:30 mark, you can see The Intersection crowd with Dan Smyers at the front getting ready to crowd surf! I happened to make it into this video. My face is in the red circle in the screenshot at the bottom of this post! The 1:38 mark features Smyers laying on his back making his way from the front to the back of the venue. I was in the second row with my friend and I remember when he started crowd surfing, he was directly over us! That was such a cool and surreal moment that I will never forget! There is more footage of Smyers crowd surfing at the 1:50 mark and I found myself again! Finally at the 2:38 section toward the end of the clip, Shay Mooney is seen being lifted back onto the stage.

This was the only concert on this tour that the duo crowd surfed. When their set started, Smyers mentioned from the stage that they wanted to do something to celebrate "Nothin" Like You" climbing the country radio chart. The producer announced that he and Mooney would crowd surf later in their set. Somehow I missed that announcement early on, so it was a huge surprise to me when they came into the audience and everyone had to use their hands to move them to the back of the venue and then back to the front again.

My friend and I had a VIP package for this concert, which included early access to the venue so we could be near the stage. We ended up standing in the second row! We also got to take a picture with the duo prior to the show starting.

Below is the screenshot of me from the video. Directly underneath that is my meet + greet picture that was taken before the concert! The YouTube video is beneath the pictures. Enjoy!

Over the last decade, Dan + Shay have worked with different organizations to raise awareness about animal fostering, rescue, and adoption. The duo have also partnered with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital where they have performed for the childhood cancer patients, participated in radio fundraising efforts for the organization by performing their songs and covers, to name a couple of events. From my experience following Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney over the year, they have the biggest hearts and love to give back whenever and wherever they can. Stay tuned for future posts where I break down each time they worked with a charity over the years.

According to an August 6, 2025 press release on The Stand Up To Cancer official website, Smyers and  Mooney have been added to the television lineup to perform a song alongside fellow country artists Jelly Roll, Jon Pardi, and pop group The Jonas Brothers, to name a few. They will help raise money for Stand Up To Cancer, which was co-founded by journalist Katie Couric, according to the press release.

The TV special will air across several channels, including on the four major networks, ABC, CBS, NBC, and FOX, as well as streaming platforms STARZ and tubi, Video On Demand, and through the iHeart radio app starting at 8/7c.

Dan + Shay Surprise Fans With Cover Of Pop Sensation Niall Horan’s “Slow Hands”

Let me take it all the way back to July 3, 2017 when Dan + Shay posted a short cover of pop sensation Niall Horan’s romantic smash hit “Slow Hands” to their social media pages and YouTube channel. On their acoustic short clip of the song, Dan Smyers showed off his guitar skills and smooth harmonies while Shay Mooney showed off his vocal range with some high notes. Both guys proved that they are great storytellers while singing this tune.

Horan, who was previously a member of the group One Direction, is now a solo artist. He also has been a Coach on NBC’s reality singing competition The Voice like Dan + Shay haveand will return to the show this Fall in the big red chair.

Stay tuned for more covers Smyers and Mooney have done of artists songs in other genres as well as in the country category over the years!

Dan And Abby Smyers Real Inspiration Behind Dan + Shay's Wedding Song "We Should Get Married" Featured in Video

Prior to their Bigger Houses album release on September 5, 2013, Dan Smyers from Dan + Shay took to the duo's social media accounts and YouTube channel to post a video celebrating the already released song "We Should Get Married". The clip is set to the upbeat, fun wedding song and features a photograph after he proposed to his now wife Abby Smyers in November, 2016 and a video of her excited reaction. He also included several pictures from their Nashville wedding on May 13, 2017 that includes him and Abby posing in front of a limo, an adorable picture with their three rescue dogs at the time Chief, Joy, and Ghost, and a shot of the groom with his bandmate Shay Mooney.

Video footage from both Smyers' and Mooney's weddings was featured in their 2018 music video for their number one hit "Speechless". Stay tuned for a future post about the scenes in the music video as well as a post with my take on the lyrics, production, and vocals of the songs.

Dan + Shay Sing About A Love That Is Hard To Let Go Of In Third Number One Song "How Not To"

There are many things that I have admired about Dan + Shay since I became a fan in March, 2014, from their songwriting to skills to Dan Smyers' beautiful background vocals and harmonies as well as his innovative producing skills and everything else in between. While the duo has written the majority of their songs with other songwriters, there have been a handful of tunes they did not write. I can always tell they chose these songs carefully and put their own spin on the lyrics, production, and vocals. They were also able to connect with each one. When I have listened to these songs that others wrote, to me, it felt like the duo wrote them.

One of those songs is titled "How Not To" from their Obsessed album. It was written by Kevin Bard, Adam Hambrick, and Paul DiGiovanni. So far, this is the only one of Smyers' and Mooney's 11 number one tracks that they did not pen. It is about a love that is hard to let go of. It features a lot of vivid images so the listener can really take in what is happening.

The song has a 12 second opening with an electric guitar playing to introduce the first verse. Mooney on the lead vocals starts singing that he knows why the relationship has ended. He goes on to tell the story that the main male character can play leaving over and over again in his head. The next line he sings is, "I can give you the keys and take my things back, I can find plenty things to fill my days."

Now, Smyers joins in with his beautiful harmonies to accompany Mooney's stellar lead vocal in the chorus. The two start it with singing the lyrics, "But I don't know how not to think about you/When it's late at night and quiet." The pair go on to tell the story, "And I know that I out to be the one who is strong and just moves on."

However, the main character does not seem to be ready to move on from the relationship right away, as the duo sing, "But I'll probably turn down your road, knock knock on your door, Fall back in your arms, wake up in the morning Hating myself for the way that I can't help the way I still want you." The chorus ends with the duo repeating twice, "I just don't know how not to, how not to, how not."

The chorus is filled with the duo's passionate vocals, really getting the message of the song across to the audience.

The second verse states that the female character is someone that the main male character cannot let go of, as Mooney sings, "You're like second nature baby, you're just like breathin'." She is then compared to a song when the lead vocalist sings, "A melody that you hear and you can't forget." He goes on with his strong vocals to say, And time goes by and I still need you/Yeah you're worth the heartbreak and no regret."

The chorus repeats for a second and third time with the duo's passionate vocals as the song builds up, and after the last "I just don't know how not to, how not to, how not to", you hear part of the introduction to the track, but it ends it this time.

This was the first time Dan + Shay released a heartbreak/break-up song to country radio. It started going for adds on September 26, 2016 and reached the top of the Mediabase Country chart on June 11, 2017. On this track, the duo were able to open up and show that while they are masters at writing and performing love songs, they have also been on the other side of the spectrum and can also perform a heartbreak/break-up song. They started to show their vulnerable side early on with "I Heard Goodbye" from their debut album.

Below is the Instant Grat Video the duo released on their YouTube channel on May 16, 2016, which I will profile in a separate post. It features two professional dancers who tell the song's story with their dance. Enjoy! I am using this video for this post, as there was not a plain audio version of the song available on YouTube.

Kelly Clarkson Joins Dan + Shay For An Epic Performance Of "Keeping Score" on the 2019 Academy Of Country Music Awards

The country music genre is known for its collaborations over the years. Some of my favorite collaborations include Brad Paisley featuring Carrie Underwood on "Remind Me", Keith Urban featuring Underwood on "The Fighter", Miranda Lambert featuring Underwood on "Somethin' Bad", and Reba McEntire featuring pop star Kelly Clarkson on "Because Of You".

Dan + Shay joined the collaboration party in 2018 when they released their song "Keeping Score" that featured Kelly Clarkson. The tune is on the duo's self-titled third album. Fast forward to 2019 when they received the opportunity to perform the song with the pop superstar herself on the 54th Academy Of Country Music Awards that aired on April 6, 2019.

There were bright lights all around the stage that were the perfect background for the performance. Shay Mooney started to perform the first verse telling the story. Before the chorus began, he welcomed Clarkson to the stage. Wearing a black dress with a belt that had a silver front and dangling silver earrings, the pop superstar looked stunning and delivered a strong vocal performance on the chorus as well as the song's second verse. The two powerhouse vocalists sounded incredible when they joined together to perform the chorus. Dan Smyers provided his unique harmonies during the chorus.

I have followed Clarkson since her time on season one of American Idol. I remember her delivering over-the-top performances week after week. I was very happy when she became the first winner of the reality television singing competition. From putting out hit after hit, hosting her own talk show, and being a coach on another reality television singing competition, The Voice among other things, Clarkson has shown that she can do anything and is a force to be reckoned with in show business, all while staying the humble human being she is from Texas.

Stay tuned for future posts about other collaborations Dan + Shay have done in the last five years as well as additional posts about "Keeping Score".

Dan + Shay Cover Kacey Musgraves' "Merry Go 'Round" Just After They Met In The Tent Concert Series Video On YouTube

Dan Smyers met Shay Mooney at a house party he threw on December 7, 2012. Just over a month later on January 16, 2013, Patrick Tracy, Smyers' best friend spanning all the way back to their childhood, created a YouTube channel called The Tent Concert Series. He filmed a video of Smyers and Mooney (who were not officially known as Dan + Shay yet) covering Kacey Musgraves' hit song "Merry Go 'Round".

In an interview with country music website The Boot that was posted on September 12, 2014, Musgraves talks about the meaning of the song. "Never settle," she told the website. "I guess that would be my main message. Just know that there's more beyond what you're comfortable with and what you've been shown, and that you can do anything no matter how big or small your town is."

This message rings true for Dan + Shay who both came from small towns. They are truly living out their dreams and I could not be happier for them.

It blows my mind that while the two guys had only known each other and had been writing songs together for a little over a month, their vocals sound very in sync and crisp in this video. Mooney sounded like a very mature 21 year old performing this song. His mature voice at that time was way beyond his years. And I believe every word he is telling in the story. I also think his guitar skills are impressive.

If you listen very closely, you can hear Smyers harmonizing during the song's chorus. I truly hope that he takes a solo on a verse, chorus, or both on an upcoming release because his voice is very different and unique. This was my first time seeing Smyers playing a banjo and his playing skills amazed me.

When they met, Smyers lived in a house at 507 Morton Avenue that he found on Craigslist. Stay tuned for a future post on more about this house and his humble beginnings before he gained fame as a country artist with Mooney. Despite having a lot of money to his name now, I still believe that the Dan + Shay producer is humble and knows all that it took to get to where he is today. Tracy filmed the guys performing this cover in that house under the makeshift tent they created with a rug and bed sheets. They wrote and sang a lot of songs under that tent for a long period of time.

I do not think I had seen this video before prior to today. If I had, it was quite a while ago and I cannot remember viewing it. Let me just say that it is incredible how far they have come from that day in January, 2013 to where they are now in the present.

Stay tuned for future posts where I profile more songs the duo has covered over the years. To me, they always make these covers their own and there has not been one I did not enjoy.

Duo Have a Great Time With K-92.3 Host On "Country Carpool with DAN + SHAY and J.R." In YouTube Video

Have you ever imagined what it would be like to drive around in a car with Dan + Shay asking them questions and singing along with them to some of their hit songs? You have to look no further because I have you covered with the video at the end of this post.

In a video posted to YouTube on April 11, 2016, J.R., a radio DJ on K92.3 FM, drove the duo around town in his truck where he talked to them and also sang along with them to some of their most popular songs as well as songs from other artists.

He first stopped in the parking lot at the House Of Blues concert venue in Orlando, Florida. The radio host started off the session by playing "Can't Say No", a track off Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney's debut album Where It All Began. J.R. and Mooney sang along to it while the harmonist and producer of the duo (Smyers) laughed from the backseat.

Next, they all sang and jammed out to part of rapper R. Kelly's song "Ignition". Mooney was on a rapper's record label before he met Smyers. Stay tuned for a future post on that, which will include some of the songs he recorded during that time.

After that, J.R. asked the duo who the most famous person in their phone is. The duo responded with Ed Sheeran. You may remember my post from May 18 when I wrote about the guys covering Sheeran's song "Perfect" on The Elvis Duran Show.

The ride continued when J.R. mentioned to both of the guys that they each had a girlfriend. He proceeded to ask them "What is something you do that annoys them?" Mooney joked and said, "Everything." He thought more for a minute and responded, "I'm just kind of so perfect in a relationship" and then cracked up, as he sits next to the radio host in the front seat.

Now, the K92.3 afternoon host turned on "All About That Bass" by pop star Meghan Trainor and mentioned that the duo liked to hang out with her. They all jam to the chorus of her hit song.

The next song the trio all sing along to is "These Days" by Rascal Flatts, one of Mooney's biggest influences and favorite country groups growing up. The three of them sing the first verse and refrain loud and proud while driving along in J.R.'s truck.

At the end of the video, the radio DJ stopped at McDonalds to order a plain vanilla ice cream cone. The duo explained to him a concept called "coning", which consists of picking up the ice cream cone by the top (the ice cream) instead of by the cone. At the drive-thru when they were handed the ice cream cone, the radio host grabbed it by the ice cream, which had everyone laughing.

With the ice cream cone in Mooney's hand, the K-92.3 radio host played "From The Ground Up", the duo's newest single at the time in 2016. The duo sang along to it and Mooney swung the ice cream cone back and forth in his hand to the song's beat.

This video was a lot of fun to watch and comment on. From my experience interacting with Dan + Shay on social media, twice in person at meet + greets, and their presence on stage seeing them in concert six times so far, I know they are normal, genuine, funny, nice human beings to be around.

Duo Get All Suited Up To Perform On Stage At Club In "Obsessed" (Instant Grat Video)

When it comes to putting together music videos that will resonate with their fans, Dan + Shay have always been a part of the creative process, which includes the storyline portion. Patrick Tracy, Dan Smyers' childhood friend, has directed several of the duo's music videos over the years. In the last few years, he has also worked with other country music artists on photo shoots and their music videos, including Keith Urban and Kelsea Ballerini.

While many of Dan + Shay's music videos have a twist to the original song plot (Stay tuned for plenty more posts about each of those music videos!), the video for their song "Obsessed" (also the title of their second studio album) was simple and classy. Patrick Tracy shot this clip, which features the duo performing the love song in a fancy club. Smyers and Shay Mooney are dressed up in suits and singing into old-fashioned microphones. They are accompanied by their band who go on tour with them as well as some additional musicians who can be seen playing saxophone, trumpet, and trombone.

The song tells a country story, but the production on it gives off jazzy vibes. To me, the whole video gives off 1940's or 1950's era jazz vibes, from everyone on stage being dressed up, to the musicians playing their instruments, the lighting, and the club scene as a whole. I have loved the feel of this song and video since they were both released in 2016!

Dan + Shay Tease New Song In January, 2024, Turns Out To Be Original Christmas Song On Their Double Album Released On October 18, 2024

Dan + Shay posted a short clip to their social media accounts and YouTube channel on January 17, 2024 of themselves accompanied by one of their frequent co-writers, Jordan Reynolds in the writing room acoustically singing lyrics to what appeared to be a new song. The duo captioned the video, “This is the cozy song…”

With Shay Mooney singing the lead vocals, Dan Smyers singing harmonies while playing his acoustic guitar, and Reynolds also singing harmonies and playing his electric guitar, the lyrics they were singing sounded very romantic and sensual to me. The trio sang, “This is the cozy song Go put your house shoes on Go grab your favorite blanket And wrap it around your body.

When I initially heard this clip, it left me wanting to hear the full song! I thought that it was going to eventually be a new tune on the duo’s next full regular studio album. To my surprise, it turned out to be an original song on their double Christmas album that was released on October 18, 2024!

Stay tuned for future posts about this song, including Smyers and Mooney’s TV performance of it on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, a rundown post of the song’s vocals, lyrics, and production, as well as a post about the music video!

Dan + Shay Post Short "What Took You So Long" Video, Leaving Me Wanting More

Dan + Shay posted a short clip of them performing the nostalgic "What Took You So Long" to their social media and YouTube channel accounts on October 24, 2023. Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney are sitting on a dock with their feet in the lake performing the nostalgic "What Took You So Long", with Mooney wearing a black tank top and gray shorts and Smyers dressed in a white buttoned-down collared shirt with shorts playing his acoustic guitar. The scene feels like the perfect summer day.

What felt like a music video to me with the duo performing the first verse and chorus then it suddenly came to an end and I was sad that it was over, as it is one of my favorite tracks from their Bigger Houses album. While it feels like their latest album is coming to an end with a new single and sixth studio album on its way, I wish "What Took You So Long" could go to country radio because I think everything about it is perfection: the lyrics, production, and vocals. I will profile it in a future post. In my opinion, this song also deserves to win awards.
